Natural Reserve “Codrii”

Codrii are a unique natural phenomenon. These ancient forests encompassed in themselves the flora of three geobotanical regions. The codries comprise about a third of the territory of Moldova, but the most attractive part of them is the central part. By beauty, the Codries do not succumb to the mountainous regions of the Crimea and the Caucasus.

The oldest scientific nature reserve in Moldova “Codrii” is located near Lozova commune, about 60 km from Chisinau and was founded on September 27, 1971. Nature in the nature reserve amazes with the abundance of forms and species, some of which are passed to the category of rare or endangered. In the Natural Reserve “Codrii” under protection there are about 1000 species of plants, that is the part of flora, characteristic of Moldova, 43 species of mammals, 145 species of birds, 7 species of reptiles, 10 species of amphibians and more than 10 thousand species of insects.

The most important tree species in the nature reserve are oak and Beech. On the territory of the Reserve is the picturesque area of the plains and the “Museum of nature”operates.
